What IS
Considered Respite Care


Parent Needs a Short Break
Temporary relief so a caregiver can rest, reset, or manage stress.
Parent Needs to Nap or Recharge
Caregiver remains nearby but requires uninterrupted time to rest, process emotions, or reset.
Mental & Emotional Reset
Time for a caregiver to decompress, manage emotions, or prevent burnout.
In-Home or Community-Based Care
Care provided in the home or an approved community setting for a limited time.
Care for Approved Children Only
What IS NOT
Considered Respite Care


Parent Going to Work or Working Remotely
Respite is not childcare, employment, or income‑generating activities.
Parent Going on Vacation or Overnight Trips
Respite does not cover vacations, travel, or extended absences.
Day Camp or Unsupervised Program
Providing services where you are not in direct supervision of the youth.
More Than 3 Youth per Service
Exceeding the maximum number of youth per service is not allowed.
Unapproved or Undocumented Services


Respite care is short-term, supportive relief - not childcare, employment coverage, or overnight supervision.
